The Dominican Republic

25 Aug. 2014

Previously ruled by a mixture of Spanish and French, the Dominican Republic occupies two-thirds (2/3) of the
Island of Hispaniola.
Throughout its unstable history..one of the constants has been the cultivation and growing of tobacco used for
the manufacturing and exporting of premium cigars.
the Dominican has been ruled by a number of Dictators over its lifetime..most notably Trujillo from 1930-1961,
who made the cigar industry suffer greatly by making it his own State Monopoly.

In 1962, the Instituto Del Tabaco was formed to help lift the manufacturers of tobacco to a higher standard,
to which it still enjoys today as the largest grower and exporter of premium U.S. smoked cigars, that are
recognized for their high quality of tobacco and craftsmanship.
